Cuba’s Classic Cars - Rolling Time Capsules.

Speaking of cars, one of the charms of Cuba are the cars that are locked in time and reflect to a small degree the history of Cuba.

All types of ’50s American cars fill the streets. Most of these are equal in weight in tin and filler, and many have diesel engines kind of ‘jury-rigged’ into their drive train. Then there are the Russian Ladas from the ’70s, and now a thin smattering of more modern cars, but not many. Most of the tour buses are Chinese. This weird mix of vehicles tells yet more of the story of Cuba’s political history and alliances.

Take a ride in my car. Cuba’s classic cars aren’t just relics of a bygone era—they’re ghosts of a past frozen in place, kept running by necessity rather than choice.
